4000 & Coupe W/093 5 Speed Transmission

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove upper engine to transmission attaching bolts.
3. Install engine support tools 10-222 and 10-222/1 or equivalents to hold engine in place.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect speedometer cable and unhook clutch cable.
6. Disconnect driveshafts at transmission.
7. Remove front exhaust pipe.
8. Remove bolts of bracket on steering rack after loosening locknuts.
9. Disconnect electrical connectors from back-up lights.
10. Remove cover plate, lower engine to transmission attaching bolts and the starter.
11. Position suitable jack under transmission and lift transmission slightly.
12. Remove shift rod coupling bolt at rear of shift rod, pry off shift rod coupling ball, and pull shift rod coupling off of shift rod.
13. Loosen transmission support on body, then remove front attaching bolt from right side transmission support and pivot transmission support toward rear of vehicle.
14. Remove transmission bracket attaching bolts and the rubber mount.
15. Pry transmission away from engine, then lower transmission and remove from under vehicle.
16. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Coat mainshaft splines with suitable lubricant.
b. Ensure that cover plate is properly seated.
c. Ensure that engine and transmission mounts are properly aligned and free of tension.
d. Tighten steering rack bracket bolts with wheels of vehicle on ground.
e. Adjust shifting mechanism as necessary.
f. Torque cover plate to transmission attaching bolts and shift rod coupling bolts to 7 ft.lbs.
g. Torque starter attaching bolts to 14 ft.lbs.
h. Torque bracket to transmission attaching bolts and muffler to catalytic converter attaching bolts to 18 ft.lbs.
i. Torque exhaust pipe to manifold attaching bolts to 22 ft.lbs.
j. Torque driveshaft to flange attaching bolts and steering rack bracket bolts to 33 ft.lbs.
k. Torque transmission to engine attaching bolts to 40 ft.lbs.
l. Torque subframe/support to body attaching bolts to 51 ft.lbs.
m. Torque rubber mount to body attaching bolts to 80 ft.lbs.
