Disassembly and Assembly

When working on strut assembly on these models, the gap on tool VW340/5 or equivalent, must be enlarged to 2-3/16 inch.
1. Install strut on spring compressor VAG 1403 or equivalent, then tool Nos. VW340 and VW340/5 or equivalent, to retain spring.
2. Compress spring to relieve tension.
3. Hold shock absorber shaft with suitable tool, then remove slotted nut.
4. Remove strut bearing and spring retainer.
5. Remove spring tensioner.
6. Remove remaining strut components.
7. Remove shock absorber threaded cap and the shock absorber.
8. Reverse procedure to assemble. Tighten shock absorber threaded cap and the upper spring retainer nut to specifications.
