VAG 1551 Display, Measuring Value Block Display Group 014:
Key to VAG 1551 Display, Measuring Value Block 14
NOTES on display group 014, display fields 2,3 and 4:
The knock control is active when engine load exceeds 40%. If the value exceeds 40% engine load, the current ignition timing retarding values are displayed. When the engine load value drops below 40%, the last ignition timing retarding value used will be displayed continuously.
When there is audible knocking without recognizable ignition timing retard, the engine speed should be raised in excess of 3500 RPM for 5 seconds to initiate knock sensor malfunction recognition (diagnosis).
If the ignition timing retard value of one cylinder clearly deviates from the other cylinders, the following malfunctions are possible:
^ Loose auxiliary assemblies
^ Corrosion on the harness connector
^ Engine damage (e.g. oil combustion due to faulty pistons)
If an entire bank of cylinders has high ignition timing retard values, the following malfunctions are possible:
^ Corrosion on the harness connector see display groups 015 and/or 016
^ Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ft lb) not OK
^ Open circuit in wiring see display group 015 and/or 016
^ Knock sensor faulty
^ Loose auxiliary assemblies
^ Poor fuel quality (less than 95 RON)
If all cylinders (banks 1 and 2) have high ignition timing retard values:
^ Fuel octane is too low (less than 91 RON)
