Bonded Areas, Checking And Repairing
CAUTION: Check glued areas carefully when checking or repairing collision damage.
- Do not check strength using a chisel or by hammering, otherwise the bond may be destroyed.
- Check glued areas carefully when diagnosing collision damage and after straightening.
- Use all applicable cautions and warnings when welding. be sure to provide for proper ventilation and exhaust.
Repair a defective joint as follows: Loose spot weld: set one pop rivet on each side of the spot weld Loose bonded joint: set one pop rivet between every two spot welds.
Use 6.4 mm (0.25 in.) galvanized steel pop rivets Hole diameter 6.6 mm (0.26 in.)
If you cannot reach the joint with pop rivets, repair with MIG welded seam. In such case the entire area of the joint must be re-welded, as the heat produced by welding destroys the adhesive in the bonded joint. The MIG seams should be welded working from the thin to the thick panel.
