Assembling Steering Column

- Reassemble steering column spline connection at floor.





- Before re-installing a steering column which has been removed, install the installation sleeve (P/N 4AO 419913) -A- onto the corrugated tube -B- and push into the steering column -C- as far as the stop.

Note:
Do not remove the assembly sleeve until after installing the steering column.





- Carefully install steering column with steering column tube into instrument panel from above.

- Install steering lock housing in steering column tube and attach.

- Install connector housing onto ignition switch.

- Install steering column tube into bracket.

- Install bolts into bracket and tube and tighten nuts by hand.

- Insert ignition key in steering column lock.

- Unlock steering wheel so that steering column can be turned as desired.





- Fasten steering column to steering pinion (arrow).

- Center steering column tube upward or downward by sliding in bracket so lock cylinder is concentric to hole in instrument panel.

- Fasten steering column tube to bracket.

- Release tore/aft adjustment and pull steering column forward.

- Remove installation sleeve.

- Reinstall shift lock cable and protective cover.

- Check key function.

- Install instrument cluster.

- Install instrument cluster trim.

- Install boot in instrument panel.





- Fasten wiring harness with clamps on left and right (also connect right Ground (GND) wire).

- Install steering column switch with lower part of trim and connect harness connector.





Caution:
Before installing the upper steering column switch, clip airbag harness connector at location provided on boot (arrow).

- Install upper half of steering column trim.

- Install steering wheel.

- Install airbag.

- Install fore/aft adjustment lever and secure with pin.

- Install tilt adjustment lever and fasten with screw.

- Check angle and fore/aft adjustment.

Warning:
There must be no one within operating range of the airbag when reconnecting the battery ground strap.

- Connect battery ground (GND) strap.

- Check operation of steering column switch.

- Install kneebar trim.

- Check steering wheel for straight ahead alignment.

- Code radio, set clock, and program windows.





- Ignition and starter switch, terminal identification.
