Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Checking DTC MemoryRequirements
^ Fuse 4 OK
^ VAG 1551 scan tool connected
^ Ignition ON
NOTE:
^ Sporadic malfunctions are indicated by "/SP" indicated on the right side of the scan tool display In order to exclude sporadic malfunctions, DTC memory must be erased before repairs are performed.
^ Additional operating instructions can be printed out by pressing the HELP button.
^ Pressing the -> button advances through the 0DB program.
- Press PRINT button for a complete printout of functions.
^ LED in PRINT button will come on.
CHECKING
- Press -1- button to select the "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1.
Indicated on display
- Press buttons -1- and -5- to select "Airbag" address word 15.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
After approximately 5 seconds:
Indicated on display for Airbag II control module
- Press -> button.

NOTE: Additional operating instructions can be printed out by pressing the HELP button.
- Press buttons -0- and -2- to select the "Check DTC Memory" function 02.
Indicated on display
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
The number of DTCs stored, if any, appears on display

NOTE:
^ When the printer is switched ON, all stored diagnostic trouble codes will be indicated and printed in sequence.
^ If the printer is switched OFF, press the -> button to display the next DTC.
- Press -> button after last DTC is displayed or printed.
Indicated on display
- Diagnose and correct airbag system according to displayed diagnostic trouble codes.
ERASING
- Activate and advance through VAG 1551 scan tool program sequence until display appears as shown.
- Press buttons -0- and -5- to select the "Erase DTC Memory" function 05.

- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press -> button to continue program.
