Procedures
Clamping Final Drive In Assembly Stand
Pulling Cover Off Final Drive
- A = M8/M10 bolts
Tool For Loosening And Tightening Pinion Nut A - Extension And 32 Mm Socket
Loosening Pinion Nut
- The final drive must be supported (e.g. with VAG 1383 A) when loosening the drive pinion nut otherwise the tapped holes for the bracket will be damaged.
Pressing Pinion Out Of Small Tapered Roller Bearing
Removing Outer Race For Small Tapered Roller Bearing
- A = Commercial internal extractor, e.g. Kukko 21/7 46-6 mm (1.81-0.24 in.)
- B = Spindle from counter-support Kukko 22/1
Driving Out Outer Race For Large Tapered Roller Bearing
Pressing Tapered Roller Bearing Off Pinion
- A = Separating device, 22-115 mm, e.g. Kukko 17/2
Pressing Tapered Roller Bearing Onto Pinion
- Heat bearing to approx. 100°C (212°F) and press on.
Installing Outer Race For Large Tapered Roller Bearing
- First install shims for pinion.
Installing Outer Race For Small Tapered Roller Bearing
Installing Tapered Roller Bearing Onto Pinion
First install pinion and new spacer sleeve.
- Heat bearing to approx. 100°C (212°F) and press on.
- Push pinion up and place rod 3114 centered on pinion.
Pressing Tapered Roller Bearing Home
- A = Square timber for supporting pinion
Tightening Pinion Nut And Adjusting Friction Torque
- Measuring friction torque: refer to "Procedures"
- The final drive must be supported (e.g. with VAG 1383 A) when tightening the drive pinion nut otherwise the tapped holes for the bracket will be damaged.
Measuring Friction Torque
- A = Commercial torque gauge, 0-600 Ncm (0-53 in lb)
- B = Extension with 32 mm socket
CAUTION!
- Slowly increase tightening torque and read friction torque value several times when doing so.
- If the specified friction torque is exceeded, the spacer sleeve must be replaced and the adjustment repeated!
- A sleeve that has been compressed cannot be reused.
These friction torques should be set
Locking Pinion Nut
- Drift for caulking is inserted through the oil drain hole.
