Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following special points:
- Assemble input shaft -A-, pinion -B-, relay shaft -C-, shift rods -D- and shift forks -E-.
- Insert assembly in transmission housing, making sure shift mechanism is in proper position.






- Position of shift mechanism in transmission (shown here without input shaft and pinion).

1. Shift rod for 5th and reverse gears with swing fork
2. Shift rod for 3rd and 4th gears with swing fork
3. Shift fork for 1st and 2nd gears
4. Relay shaft
5. Shift lever detent
6. Inner shift rod

Note: If necessary, relay shaft -4- and inner shift rod -6- can be installed later as follows:






- Engage 3rd gear.
- Install relay shaft -A-.
- Place inner shift rod -B- sideways onto mounting hole in transmission housing and fit into mounting eye in relay shaft.
- Carefully swing shift rod in direction shown (arrow).






* Circlips -A- and -B- for the input shaft ball bearing must be reinstalled using the same shim thickness and in the same position as before removal.

Note: If the ball bearing, input shaft or transmission housing are replaced, redetermine circlip thickness, Input shaft, adjusting. Adjustments

- Install input-shaft bearing after installing circlip -A-.
^ Slide ball bearing onto input shaft as far as possible
^ Installation position: Open side of plastic cage faces guide sleeve






- Install thrust washer -A- of installation tool over bearing.
- Attach installation tool behind input shaft splines and preload with two bolts -B-.
Bolts are supported by two depressions in thrust washer.
- Press in ball bearing as far as possible by alternately tightening two bolts.

CAUTION! Tighten the bolts only 1/2-turn each time, so that the ball bearing is not misaligned and thus damaged.






* Multi-function switch (back-up light switch) must always be installed with new 0-ring (arrow).






- Before installing transmission cover -A-, make sure that dowel sleeves are installed in transmission housing -B-.
