Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair
CAUTION:^ After service work, and wherever hydraulic oil is missing from the reservoir, the steering system must be checked for leaks, refer to Testing and Inspection. Testing and Inspection
^ Do not re-use hydraulic oil that has been drained from the system.
^ After installing steering system components, or replacing the hydraulic oil, make sure that the reservoir is not completely emptied by the pump when the engine is started.
NOTE: After a short time with the engine running, the power steering system bleeds itself.
- Fill reservoir with hydraulic oil to "MAX" mark on dipstick.
- With front wheels pointing straight ahead, start engine and run at idle for approx. 2 minutes.
- Watch oil in reservoir.
- When there are no more bubbles:
- Stop engine.
- If necessary, immediately top off with hydraulic oil according to marks on reservoir and/or dipstick.
