Securing Column For Transport, Removal Or Installation

REMOVAL
To remove the steering column the following applies:
- Before removing steering column from steering gear pinion, splined shaft must be secured either with transport securing tools (-1- and -2- in illustration above) or with safety wire (ARROW in illustration below).
INSTALLATION
For the installation of steering column the following applies:
- Loosely secure steering column with 4 bolts to assembly crossmember.
- Join lower part of steering column and steering gear pinon.
- Insert clamping screw through lower part and tighten by turning clockwise; nut tightened to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
- Remove transport tools (-1- and -2- in top Illustration) or safety wiring (arrow in 2nd illustration).
- Install steering column switch with trim Repair Manual, Electrical Equipment
- After aligning steering column to cover gap, tighten steering column socket-head screw to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
- Install storage shelf driver's side.
- Install steering wheel, tighten to: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
