Capacity Specifications

Capacities

A/C refrigerant R134a and refrigerant oil (PAG), capacities

NOTE:
- When charging the A/C system, always use the maximum amount of A/C refrigerant, since some of the refrigerant remains in the hose of the refrigerant recovery, recycling and recharging unit.
- In the engine compartment there is a sticker with data on the capacity and the type of refrigerant.
- The R134a refrigerant capacity depends on the version of the following components:
-- Condenser
-- Evaporator (integrated in air conditioner)
-- Restrictor

Condenser version

- On vehicles with 2.0 L and 3.0 L gas engines, condensers with small flat pipes are installed. From week 5 in 1999 the running change to condensers with small flat pipes occurred on vehicles with 8 cylinder engines.

Condensers -A- (manufacturer "Showa") with the following measurements of the flat pipes:
- -B- = 20 mm
- -C- = 3.0 mm...
... require more refrigerant than condensers -D- (manufacturer "Denso") with the following measurements of the flat pipes:
- -E- = 18 mm or 16 mm
- -F- = 1.7 mm

- Observe the measurement of the flat pipes if the condenser is to be replaced with a different type of condenser. The data plate -A- including the capacity specification for refrigerant R134a has to be replaced or the old filling capacity has to be replaced and the new capacity must be filled in using a permanent pen.

Air conditioner unit
- In the period from week 36 to week 44, 1998, there was a running change in production from version 1 air conditioner to version 2 air conditioner. Both versions can be differentiated through specific characteristics.
- Vehicles with air conditioner units version "2" require less refrigerant than unit version "1".

Restrictor version

- Since November 1997, restrictors with a smaller hole have been installed in production, and are colored (at first yellow) so that they can be identified.
- On vehicles in which the colored restrictors are installed, somewhat more refrigerant has to be added.
