Instrument Panel Central Tube, Removing And Installing

- Remove instrument panel.

Removing

Detaching pedal bracket







- Remove bolt - 1 -.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

Disconnecting engine compartment wiring harness

- Remove engine control module







- Detach connectors - 1 - (4x) for connecting engine compartment wiring harness to instrument panel wiring harness.

Remove acoustic brace

- Vehicles with threaded connection to window flange







- Remove bolt - 2 -.
Tightening torque: 9 Nm

1 - Acoustic brace
- Vehicles with threaded connection of plenum chamber (alternative)
- Plenum chamber cover removed.

- Remove windshield wiper motor.







- Remove bolt - 1 -.
Tightening torque: 6 Nm

Detaching wiring harness at steering column







- Unclip wiring harness going to steering column switch at retainers - 1 - (2x)
- Cut through cable tie - 2 -.

Detaching steering column







- Remove bolts - 1 - (4x).
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

Removing fuse carrier

- Remove bolts - 1 - (2x).
Tightening torque: 4 Nm (35 in lb)







- Detach fuse carrier inward.

Removing relay carrier







- Remove bolts - 1 - (2x) from relay carrier - 2 -.
Tightening torque: 2 Nm (18 in lb)
- Pull tab - 2 - on relay carrier downward out of guide - 3 -.

Removing center air duct







- Remove screw - 1 - (2x).
Tightening torque: 2 Nm (18 in lb)
- Remove center air duct.

Detaching passenger-side wiring harness

- Unfasten cable ties - 1 - (3x).

Detaching air conditioner from central tube







- Remove bolts - 1 - (2x).
Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ft lb)

Detaching left brace for central tube







- Remove bolts - 1 - (2x).
Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ft lb)

Unbolting right brace







- Remove bolts - 1 - (2x).
Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ft lb)
- Remove bolts - 2 - (2x).
Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 ft lb)
- Remove brace.

Detaching central tube from bodywork (driver's side)







- Remove nuts - 2 - (2x).
Tightening torque: 40 Nm (30 ft lb)

Detaching central tube from bodywork (passenger-side)







- Remove nut - 2 - (1x).
Tightening torque: 40 Nm (30 ft lb)

Removing defroster duct

- Pull out central tube slightly.
- Pay attention to lock washer - 2 - when removing screws - 1 -.







- Remove screws - 1 - (2x).
Tightening torque: 7 Nm (62 in lb)
- Remove defroster duct - 3 -.
- Cut open cable ties at central tube.

Detaching wiring-harness compartment







- Pull compartment - 1 - for fuse-carrier wiring harness out of tongue - 2 -.

Removing connector console

- Pull out central tube until screws - 1 - (2x) can be unfastened.







- Remove screws - 1 - (2x).
- Detach remainder of wiring harness from central tube.
- Remove central tube from vehicle.

Installing
- Replace cable ties which have been cut open or damaged.
