Fuel Pump Delivery Rate, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items
- VAS 5051
- Container (fuel resistant)
Requirements for test:
- Battery voltage not less than 12 V
- Fuel tank at least 1/4 full
- Fuel pump control module -J528- OK, checking.
- Fuel filter OK
- Ignition switched off
1) In installed conditions, the Sensor 1 shows approx. 20 OHMS when the fuel tank is empty
Test sequence
- Remove air cleaner housing
- Block the openings of the air circulation pipe in the back with clean foam pads of -arrows-, so that no small articles can infiltrate system.
- Remove fuel filler cap
WARNING: Fuel supply lines are under pressure. Before loosening any lines, cover the connection with a rag. Release the pressure by slowly separating the connection.
- Remove fuel return hose -1- from the line adapter at the fuel distribution pipe
- Attach auxiliary hose -arrow- at the fuel distribution pipe and insert into a measuring cup
- Connect VAS 5051 and select "01 - engine electronics".
- Switch ignition on
VAS 5051:
- Select the diagnostic function -1- "03 - control module diagnosis".
VAS 5051:
A - Output check test waiting
Continue as required
1 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-
- Select the diagnostic function -1- "03 - control module diagnosis". -> key
VAS 5051:
A - Output check test running
Allowed to continue
NOTE: During the time that the -N80- is activated, the fuel pump is running on 10 V operating voltage.
- Quit function "03 - control module diagnosis" after exactly 15 seconds by touching <- key.
- Compare amount of fuel with desired value
- Minimum delivery 500 cubic centimeter/15 s
- Install the fuel return pipe with new hose clip.
- Install the air cleaner housing.
- Verify the correct installation of the air filter housing:
- Mass airflow sensors must be completely inserted in the intake tube
- a = max. 5 mm
