Water Pump: Service and Repair
Note:
- Always replace seals and gaskets.
- Cover the toothed belt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing the coolant pump.
Removing
- Drain coolant.
- Bring lock carrier into service position. [1][2]Procedures
- Remove viscous fan. Service and Repair
CAUTION: The viscous fan is mounted with a left-handed thread; turn clockwise to loosen (arrow).
- Remove ribbed belt. Service and Repair
- Remove toothed belt guard.
- Loosen tensioning roller and take toothed belt off camshaft sprockets. Service and Repair
- Remove bracket for viscous fan.
- Remove coolant pump mounting bolts -1- and remove coolant pump -2-.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, however note the following:
- Install new gasket -3- onto water pump flange.
- Install coolant pump -2- onto cylinder block and tighten mounting bolts -1-.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).
- Install and tension toothed belt.
- Install toothed belt guard.
- Install ribbed belt.
- Fill cooling system with coolant.
