Air Distribution In Air Conditioner

Air Distribution In Air Conditioner

NOTE:
The cut away illustration of the air conditioner shows the flaps in the "Air guide to footwell" position and temperature position in "cooling" position (no air through heater core for heating)

A - Driver side
B - Passenger's side
C - Air intake from passenger compartment air (recirculated air mode)
- Via passenger side footwell
D - Fresh air intake
- Via the dust and pollen filter which is installed in the plenum chamber
E - To front windshield vents (passenger side)
- The air from the center defroster vent comes from both sides of the air conditioner, the temperature depends on the mixture-ratio which has been selected by the temperature adjustment on the A/C control head -E87-.
F - To front windshield vents (drivers side)
- The air from the center defroster vent comes from both sides of the air conditioner, the temperature depends on the mixture-ratio which has been selected by the temperature adjustment on the A/C control head -E87-.
G - To instrument panel vents driver side
H - To footwell vents/driver side front
J - To instrument panel vents center
- The air from these vents comes from both sides of the air conditioner, the temperature depends on the mixture-ratio which has been selected by the temperature adjustment on the A/C control head -E87-.
K - To footwell vents - driver's side rear
L - To footwell vents - passenger's side rear
M - To footwell vents/passenger's side front
N - To instrument panel vents -passenger's side

1 - Fresh Air Blower -V2-

- With Control module for fresh air blower -J126-
2 - Recirculated air flap
- Marked in position "closed"
3 - Fresh air flaps
- Marked in position "open"
- Both flaps are moved independently from each other by the curved washer and actuator lever attached on the positioning motor.
4 - Defroster flap
- Marked in position "closed"
- Both flaps are moved together via lever and coupling elements that are attached on the outside of the air distribution housing.
5 - Central flap 1
- Marked in position "closed"
- Due to the shape of both outer flaps, with the center flap closed air can flow to the right and left vents.
- Both central flaps are moved independently from each other by the curved washer and actuator lever attached on the positioning motor.
6 - Central flap 2
- Marked in "open" position, air duct to footwell vents
- Both central flaps are moved independently from each other by the curved washer and actuator lever attached on the positioning motor.
7 - Heater element for auxiliary heater -Z35-
- Only for vehicles with Diesel engine
- Not installed on USA vehicles
8 - Heater core
9 - Temperature flaps 2

- One flap for driver's side and one for passenger side.
- Marked in position "cooling"
- The temperature flaps 2 are activated by temperature flaps 1 via coupling elements that are installed in the air distribution housing.
10 - Temperature flaps 1
- Marked in position "cooling"
- One flap for driver's side and one for passenger side.
11 - Evaporator

Coupling element between temperature flaps "1" and "2"

A - Coupling elements to positioning motor for left temperature flap (driver's side)
B - Temperature flap "1" driver's side
C - Coupling element driver's side
D - Temperature flap "2" driver's side
E - Coupling element passenger's side
F - Temperature flap "2" passenger's side
G - Temperature flap "1" passenger's side
H - Coupling elements to positioning motor for right temperature flap (passenger's side)

NOTE: With the heater core removed the coupling elements between both temperature flaps "1" and "2" are visible through the opening.
