Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-, removing and installing

Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-, removing and installing
- Switch ignition OFF.
- Remove rubber seal from the plenum panel cover.





- Remove plenum panel cover toward front -1- -arrows-.





- Pry off two cover caps -3- with a screwdriver.
- Loosen hex head nuts -4- a few turns.
- Remove wiper arms -2- from wiper shaft by tilting them slightly.
- Remove hex head nuts completely and remove wiper arms.
- Remove safety clips -1- and remove cowl grille -5-.





- Remove cover for plenum panel E-box -arrows-.





- Pry off retaining bracket with a screwdriver -arrows-.
- Place Engine Control Module (ECM) with harness connectors attached to one side.
- Unclip retaining bracket for Transmission Control Module (TCM).

Note: The harness connector for the control module must not removed or connected for 30 seconds after the ignition has been switched OFF.





- Unlock harness connector -arrow- and pull it off Transmission Control Module (TCM).

Note: When the harness connector is removed, the adaptation values in the Transmission Control Module (TCM) are reset. The control module has to relearn these values after resumption of operation. During this learning process shift quality may be worse than normal.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
