Instrument Panel, Removing



Instrument Panel, Removing

NOTE: Obtain radio code number before removing.

- Removing:
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap at battery.
- Remove drivers airbag unit.
- Remove steering wheel.
- Remove instrument cluster.
- Remove drivers storage compartment.
- Remove glove box.
- Remove front section of center console.

Removing steering column switch
Drivers airbag unit and steering wheel removed
- Pull out steering column and tilt downward as far as it will go.







- Remove screws - 1 - (2x), tightening torque 2.8 Nm.
- Remove grip - 2 -.







- Remove two Phillips-head screws - arrows -.
- Tightening torque 0.6 Nm
- Remove upper steering column switch trim - 1 -.

When installing, insert upper section into hooks on lower section, swivel downward and secure with screws.







- Remove screws - 2 - (2x). Tightening torque 0.6 Nm
- Remove hex socket head bolt - 1 -.
- Tightening torque 0.6 Nm
- Remove lower steering column switch trim - 3 -.







- Separate connection - 1 -.
- Release locking tabs - arrows - and pull coil connector with slip ring off steering column switch.

NOTE: The steering wheel must be in the center position (wheels in straight-ahead position) when the coil connector and slip ring are removed and installed.

- Remove screw - 2 -.
- Tightening torque 2.8 Nm
- Disconnect harness connectors - 3 - (2x).
- Remove steering column switch - 4 -.

Removing instrument panel end trim (left)







- Use screwdriver to unclip instrument panel end trim (left) - 1 -.

Removing instrument panel end mounting plate (left)

- Remove screws - 2 - (5x).
- Tightening torque 3.5 Nm







- Remove instrument panel mounting plate toward rear

Removing instrument panel end trim (right)







- Use screwdriver to unclip instrument panel end trim (right) - 1 -.

Removing instrument panel end mounting plate (right)







- Remove screws - 4 - (2x).

Removing "windshield" defroster vent

- Defroster vent - 1 - cannot be removed without being destroyed.







- Pull defroster vent - 1 - upward, starting at front.
- In doing so, break off tabs - 2 -.







- Using appropriate pliers, pull out engaging pin - 2 - using a tipping movement (direction of arrow).

Removing speaker







- Remove screws - 2 - (4x), tightening torque 0.8 Nm.
- Remove speaker - 3 - and disconnect harness connector - 4 -.

Removing photo sensor







- Remove screw - A -.
- Remove photo sensor - B -.
- Pull out connector - C -.

Removing right brace

- Remove screws - 2 - (3x).
- Tightening torque 5 Nm







- Take out brace - 1 -.

Separating instrument panel air duct from heater/air conditioner







- Remove screw - 1 - (2x), tightening torque 1.5 Nm.
- Detach instrument panel air duct - 2 - from heater/air conditioner.

Detaching instrument panel

- Disconnect harness connectors from switches in dashboard - 3 -.
- Remove screws - 1 - (2x).







- Remove screws - 2 - (2x).
- Remove instrument panel toward rear.

- Installing:
- Extend photo sensor wire by attaching a cord or cable tie.
- Extend loudspeaker wire by attaching a cord or cable tie.
- Locate instrument panel and insert extensions attached to photo sensor and loudspeaker wires.
- Clip - 1 - together with felt pad - 2 -







- Insert instrument panel into clips - 1 -, at the same time pressing it down slightly.
- Press gently to check that instrument panel is installed properly in clips - 1 -.
- Install steering column switch but do not tighten mountings.







- Install lower section of trim - 3 - for steering column switch.
- Tighten screws - 2 - (2x).
- Tightening torque 0.6 Nm
- Install screw - 1 -, but do not tighten.
- Install self-cancelling ring with coil connector and slip ring.
- Install steering wheel.







- Position steering column switch with lower section of trim at a distance of 3 mm from steering wheel (distance - a -).
- Tighten clamp - 1 -.
- Tightening torque 2.8 Nm
- Tighten hex socket-head bolt - 2 -.
- Tightening torque 0.6 Nm
- Perform remaining installation steps in reverse order of removal.
