Crash Signal Wiring, Testing

The crash signal ("Crash switch-off triggered") is transmitted to the engine control module by the airbag control module.

If the airbag control module transmits the crash signal to the engine control module (in case of an accident or if a output diagnostic test mode for the airbag system is carried out), the engine control module switches off the fuel pump. The engine stops but can be restarted immediately (e.g. to move the vehicle out of the danger zone).

- Connect test box VAG 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control module. Do not connect to the engine control module itself. Wiring and Component Testing Using VAG1598/31 Test Box
- Test for open circuit and short to positive or Ground in the following wiring connection:

- VAG 1598/31 Test Box Socket - 67 (Airbag control module -J234

- Correct short circuit or open circuit if necessary.

If no wiring malfunction is detected:
- Check DTC memory of airbag control module.
