Front Backrest, Removing And Installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
- Engine and transmission holder VAS 6095
- Fixture for seat repair VAS 6136
CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
1 - Backrest
- Removal:
- Remove seat.
- Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.
- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.
- Remove side trim on sill side.
- Remove side trim on tunnel side.
- Remove screw - 5 -.
- Turn bracket - 6 - upward.
- Remove bolts - 4 - (Qty. 4).
- Disengage retaining strip - 9 - from seat pan - 7 -.
- Pry off backrest mounting brackets - 2 - (Qty. 2) on guides in seat pan - 7 -.
- Tip backrest - 1 - forward on seat.
- Push cushion aside and carefully disconnect wiring harness - 3 - from seat pan - 7 -.
- Remove backrest - 1 -.
- Installing:
Installation is reverse of removal. Observe the following when doing so:
- Position spacer - 8 - on tunnel side onto lower guide in seat pan so that the spacer stands flush with guide.
- Always replace bolts - 4 - (Qty. 4).
- Cut threads in backrest frame before installing bolts - 4 - (Qty. 4).
For seats with seat memory:
- Perform a basic setting for backrest or seat after installing seat in vehicle.

- Qty. 2
3 - Cable harness
4 - Screw, self-locking
- 20 Nm
- Replace
- Qty. 4
- Threaded holes must always be cleaned (e.g. with a thread cutter)
5 - Screw
6 - Support
7 - Seat pan
8 - Spacer, tunnel side only
9 - Fastening strip
1 - Cable tie
- Cut cable tie - 1 -.
- Remove rubber strap - 2 -.
- Disconnect connector - 4 - (Qty. 4).
- Remove adhesive strips on securing rails - 3 - (Qty. 5).
