Drivers Side Airbag Igniter N199 and Front Passengers Side Airbag Igniter N200 (Top-mounted Airbag), Removing And Installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Torque wrench V.A.G 1410
- Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A
- Engine and transmission holder VAS 6095
- Fixture for seat repair VAS 6136
CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
1 - Drivers and passengers side airbags
- Removal:
- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap.
- Remove seat:
- Standard seat: Vehicles up to 10.04.
- Electric seat: Vehicles up to 10.04.
- Recaro seat through 10.04
- Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.
- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.
- Remove backrest panel:
- Standard seat: Vehicles up to 10.04.
- Electric seat: Vehicles up to 10.04.
- Recaro seat through 10.04.
- Loosen boot - 4 -.
- Remove wiring harness - 5 - upward.
- Remove nuts - 2 - (2x) of side airbag - 1 -.
- Pry out metal strap - 3 -.
- Remove side airbag - 1 -.
- Remove clip - 6 - and carefully remove wiring harness - 5 -.
- Installing:
Installation is reverse of removal. When doing this, note the following:
- Ensure that the wiring harness - 5 - runs between seat frame and plastic guide - 7 - and that no tension is applied to the cable.
- Secure clip - 6 -.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION: No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.
- Connect the battery ground (GND) strap.
NOTE:
- Follow safety measures after connecting battery.
- If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) K75 shows a malfunction after assembly, DTC memory must be checked with Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A , cleared and then rechecked.
2 - Nuts (2x)
- Tightening torque 5 Nm
- Replace after each disassembly
