Airbag Unit (Sport Steering Wheel), Assembly Overview
WARNING: Observe safety precautions for working on airbags.
1 - Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring -F138-
2 - Connector for airbag unit
3 - Torx bolts T30 (2x)
- Tightening torque: 7 Nm
4 - Connector for spiral spring
5 - Steering wheel
6 - Socket-head bolt
- Tightening torque 50 Nm
7 - Airbag unit

- Removal
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Unlatch steering column adjustment.
- Pull steering wheel -5- as far out and up as possible.
- Place steering wheel -5- vertical.
- Remove one Torx bolt T 30 -3-.
- Turn steering wheel back one half-turn and remove the second Torx bolt T 30 -3-.
- Disconnect connector for airbag unit -2-.
- Place airbag unit -7- on appropriate surface with impact padding facing up.
- Installing
- Installation is the reverse of removal.
- Make sure connector and securing clip completely engage (audible).
- Make sure no cable/wire lies upon the gas generator.
- Make sure that the airbag cable is not pinched. Route airbag cable to the left in a loop.
- Tighten bolts -3- (2x) to a tightening torque of 7 Nm.
- Switch ignition on.
WARNING: No person may be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect battery Ground (GND) strap.
NOTE:
- Observe safety precautions after connecting the battery.
- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- signals a malfunction after installation, DTC memory must be interrogated, erased and once again interrogated using VAS 5051 tester.
