Component Tests

Electrical testing

Note:
^ For testing use multimeter Fluke 83 and test wires from kit V.A. G 1594.
^ The specification given are valid for ambient temperature between 10°C (50°F) to 40°C (104°F).
^ If measured values differ from specified values, find cause using the applicable wiring diagram and make necessary repairs.
^ If measured values differ only slightly from the specified values, clean sockets and connectors of the testers and then repeat test Before replacing any components check a// wiring and connectors. Especially when resistance is less than 10 a, repeat resistor test at component.
^ To connect testers, use test box V.A. G 1598120.
^ The pin numbers of the connectors correspond with the socket numbers of test box V.A. G 15MO.

CAUTION: To prevent damage or destruction of electronic components, adjust tester to the appropriate testing range before connecting tester.

Test requirements:
^ Battery voltage OK
^ Fuses for Transmission Control Module OK
^ Fuses for the component to be tested OK
^ Ground connection OK
Check battery Ground cable between body and transmission.
Check ground connections for transmission control module
^ Switch off ignition for all test procedures. Disconnect multi-pin connector for Transmission Control Module -J217 (The control module is located in front of the passenger's seat under the footwell carpet; Refer to Fig. 1. Connect test box V.A. G 1598/20 to harness connector.
^ If measured values are different from specifications, follow instructions in test tables.
^ Perform all work procedures indicated in column "Corrective action".
^ Perform only work procedures listed.
