Fig.11 Transmission Control Module (TCM) for multitronic -J217-:

Component location: The Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- is mounted at the rear of the transmission, directly on the hydraulic unit.
The following components are integrated in the control module.
A - Sender for transmission output RPM -G195- and Sender 2 for transmission output RPM -G196-
B - Transmission fluid temperature sensor -G93-
C - Multi-function transmission range (TR) switch -F125-
D - Sensor for transmission RPM -G 182E - Sender 1 for hydraulic pressure, automatic transmission -G193-
F - Sender 2 for hydraulic pressure, automatic transmission -G 194-

CAUTION: Always perform the Adaptation after Installing a new Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.

Fig. 12 Hydraulic Unit:

Component location: The hydraulic unit is bolted to the rear of the transmission. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- is bolted directly to the hydraulic unit
A - Wiring connector for Pressure control valve 1 for automatic transmission -N215-
A - Wiring connector for Pressure control valve 2 for automatic transmission -N216-
C -Wiring connector for solenoid valve 1 -N88-

The following valves are integral on the hydraulic unit (not shown here):
1. Pressure control valve 1 for automatic transmission -N215-; clutch solenoid valve
2. Pressure control valve 2 for automatic transmission -N216-; transmission ratio solenoid valve
3. Solenoid valve 1 -N88; clutch cooling/safety cutoff
4. Clutch cooling valve
5. Minimum pressure valve
6. Pressure control valve
7. Clutch control valve
8. Control pressure valve
You will find a more precise description and operation of the individual valves in:
Refer to Self-study Program Course No. 951103, Variable Automatic Transmission, Multitronic OIJ

Fig.13 Shift lock solenoid -N110-:

Component location: The shift lock solenoid is located in the shift control mechanism -arrow-.

Fig. 14 Data Link Connector (DLC):

Component location: The DLC is located under the knee bolster to the left of the steering wheel.

Fig. 15 Cruise control switch -E45-:

Component location: The cruise control switch is located on the steering column switch.

Fig.16 Transmission Range (TR) selector lever display -YS-:

Component location: Integrated in the instrument cluster

Note: The transmission range selector lever display can only be replaced together with the instrument cluster.

Fig. 17 Relay for Park/Neutral Position (PNP) relay -J226- and back-up light:

Component location: Pin location 4 in 13-position relay carrier behind the instrument panel on the left side.

Fig.18 Relay for power supply terminal 87:

Component location: Pin location 3 in 3-position relay carrier in plenum panel E-box.
Power supply via terminal 87 is handled through the Motronic ECM power supply relay -J271-.

Fig. 19 Brake light switch -F-:

Component location: The brake light switch -arrow- is located on the pedal cluster.

Note: To ensure an adequately tight fit the switch must only be installed once.

Fig. 20 Kickdown switch -F8-:

Component location:
^ No mechanical switch. A specific value from the Throttle position sensors -G79-/-G185- is stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM)
