Backrest Cover And Padding, Removing And Installing







Removing

WARNING: Observe relevant safety precautions on models equipped with side airbags.

- Remove seat.
- Remove backrest.
- Insert a screwdriver on one side to pry out rear footwell light; disconnect harness connectors.
- Pry cover fastening strip off backrest trim - 4 -.
- Unclip backrest trim - 4 - with clips - 5 -.
- Pull backrest trim - 4 - downward to remove.
- Detach backrest cover at rear.
- Remove head restraint - 7 - by pressing catch on left-hand rod.
- Remove head restraint guide - 8 - Fig. 1.
- Lift seat cover fabric and cut through upholstery clips - 1 - (- A -).
- Remove padding - 2 -.
- Remove backrest heating element - 3 -







Installing
- Use VAG 1634 stapling tool to install new upholstery clips.
- To ease assembly, push back longitudinal rods as far as first transverse rod.
- When installing, staple transverse rods first, then longitudinal rods.

- On vehicles with sewn-in heating element, backrest heating element and backrest cover must be replaced together.

For greater clarity, head restraint guide - 1 - is shown removed.
- Insert upholstery needle or screwdriver - 3 - with maximum width of 2 mm into hole - 4 - (opposite retaining clip for head restraint guide).
- Pry screwdriver - 3 - in direction of -arrow A-, press retainer tab - 2 - in direction of -arrow B- and pull out head restraint guide - 1 -.
