Rear upper tether, removing and installing
Removing
- Remove cover - 1 - Fig: 1.
- Remove bolt - 2 -.
- Remove anchoring stops - 3 - and spacer sleeve - 4 -.
Installing
- Installation is reverse of removal
1 - Cover
2 - Bolt(1x)
- Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 ft lb)
3 - Anchoring stop
4 - Spacer
5 - Rear shelf
6 - Threaded washer
- Install from luggage compartment side.
7 - Pop rivets
- Rivet direction optionally from above or below.
8 - Metal sheet - rear shelf

- Pry cover - 1 - in opposite direction of -arrow B-.
- Remove cover - 1 - by pulling in opposite direction of -arrow B-.
- Install in reverse of removal.
Rear Upper Tether, Retrofitting
- Remove rear shelf - 5 - (for foldable rear seatback) (for solid backrest).
- Hold threaded washer - 6 - against metal sheet for rear shelf from within luggage compartment.
- Rivet threaded washer - 6 - on (rivet direction is optional from above or below).
- Bolt on anchoring stop - 3 - and spacer - 4 - using bolt - 2 -.
- Cut out rear shelf Fig. 2.
- Install rear shelf - 5 -.
- Install cover - 1 - Fig. 1.

- Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 ft lb)

- Install from luggage compartment side.
7 - Pop rivets
- Rivet direction optionally from above or below.
8 - Metal sheet - rear shelf

- Slide cover - 1 - in direction of -arrow A-.
- Press in cover - 1 - in direction of -arrow B-.
- Install in reverse of removal

- Indentation - 1 - in rear side of rear shelf.
- Cut rear shelf on outer edge - 2 - of indentation - 1 -.
- Dimension - A - = 90 +0.5 mm
- Dimension - B - = 42.5 +0.5 mm
Rear Lower Anchors, Installing
1 - Rear lower anchor bracket
- Remove rear seat.
- Disconnect connectors
- Remove bolts - 4 - (2x).
2 - Bolts (4x)
- 30 Nm (22 ft lb)
- Mount rear lower anchor bar - 1 - with bolts - 2 - fastened into threaded holes in body floor panel.
NOTE:
- When installing, ensure clearance to lap belt with retractor; if necessary, rotate lap belt with retractor.
- The rear lower anchors shown in the illustration are for vehicles with front wheel drive. The anchor bars for quattro vehicles are similar.
- Inside anchors are not recommended for attaching rear lower anchors of a LATCH seat in the middle position. The three-point lap/shoulder belt should be used.
