Fuel Pump Delivery Rate, Checking - Vehicles With 4-cyl. Turbo Engine, 6-cyl. And 8-cyl. Engine
Special tools and equipment
- V.A.G 1318/17-1
- VAG 1348/3A and VAG 1348/3-2
- Fuel-resistant measuring container
Requirements for test
- Battery voltage not less than 12.7 V
- Fuel filter OK
- Fuel tank at least 1/4 filled
- Fuel pressure regulator OK, checking.
- Ignition switched off
Test sequence
- Open fuse box cover on the left side of the instrument panel.
- Pull Fuse in fuse holder -S228- off plug-in position 28 of fuse carrier (left row, 5th large fuse from the top).
- Connect remote control VAG 1348/3A together using adapter cable VAG 1348/3-2 to right-hand fuse socket terminal of Fuse in fuse holder -S228- (plug-in position No. 28) -arrow-.
- Connect clamp to vehicle battery (+).
- Remove filler cap from fuel tank filler neck.
- Remove rear seat bench.
- Detach cover for flange -arrows- (right side).
WARNING: The fuel system is under pressure. Before opening the system, place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
- Remove fuel supply line (arrow) from locking flange (left side of vehicle).
- Fit adapter V.A.G 1318/17-1 onto disconnected fuel return line and hold line in measuring container.
- Operate remote control for 15 seconds (keep button pressed).
- Compare the quantity of fuel delivered with specification.
*) Minimum delivery cubic centimeter/15 seconds
**) Voltage at fuel pump with engine stationary and pump running (approx. 2 volts less than battery voltage).
- Connect fuel return hose.
