Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

CAN-Bus For ESP

CAN-Bus for ESP

The ESP function relies on an exchange of signals between ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104- (-item 2- in the illustration), the engine control module (-item 3-) the transmission control module (-item 4-) and the steering angle sensor -G85- (-item 1-).

The matching resistors at the ends of the CAN-Bus are rated at 120 9, and are located in the ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104- (-item 2-) and in the engine control module (-item 3-).

As of implementation of control modules 8DO 907 389 D/E, the CAN-Bus is terminated centrally in the ECM with a resistance of approx. 66 ohms. All other control modules in the CAN connection, e.g. -J104-, are terminated with a high-resistance of 2.6 k Ohms.
