Affected Vehicles

RVU - Replacement of Remote Transmitter Key (IG)

Condition

This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:

Locking or unlocking the doors using remote transmitter is not possible with one or both of the keys. In some cases, functionality can temporarily be restored by switching ignition on and off again.

This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect for 15 months from date of publication. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:

1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the IG code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.

2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.

3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.

4. Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory.

Technical Background

May be caused by voltage loss due to contact surfaces within remote.

New remote transmitter key supplied.

Service

Checking remote transmitter keys:

The following steps apply only for vehicles without an appointment.

1. Unfold remote transmitter key and read part number.





^ If both remote transmitter keys are Part No: 8E0 837 220A or 8E0 837 220F, replace both remote transmitter keys with replacement kit, Part No: 8E0 898 998E INB (includes 2 keys).

^ If only one key has Part No: 8E0 837 220A or 8E0 837 220F, replace remote transmitter key with Part No: 8E0 837 220R INB (individual key).

^ If none of the remote transmitter keys have part numbers as listed above, no further action is required.

Matching remote transmitter keys:

1. Match the new key(s) to the Immobilizer using procedure in Guided Functions on the VAS 5051 or 5052.

2. Match the new key(s) to the Central Locking System using procedure in Guided Functions on the VAS 5051 or 5052.

3. Destroy the old keys.

Destroying old remote transmitter keys:

After replacement, all old keys must be destroyed and returned to the customer. Perform the following:

1. Saw off the original key blades of the remote control keys that have been replaced.

2. Destroy key housings with a hammer.





3. Fill in the "Receipt Form for Key Destruction" shown and give this to the customer with their old key(s).
