Camshaft Timing Adjusters, Removing and Installing



Camshaft timing adjusters, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required:





^ Multi-point socket T40080
^ Camshaft locating tool T10252
^ Pin wrench T10020
^ Securing pin T10115

Removing
- Remove high-pressure pump.





- Remove bolts - arrows -.

- Remove cylinder head cover





- Remove camshaft adjuster cover - arrows -.





- Move marking on camshaft sprocket so that it is across from the marking on toothed belt cover. The notches - arrows - now face toward each other vertically.





- Install camshaft locating tool T10252 as shown and secure it - arrows -.
- Loosen bolt from camshaft adjuster with socket T40080.





- Compress chain tensioner - arrow A - and secure it with locking pin T10115 - arrow B -.
- Remove bolt from camshaft adjuster and remove it together with chain.

Installing





^ The camshafts must be fixed in place using camshaft locating tool T10252.
- Place chain onto camshaft adjuster.





- Hold camshaft adjuster in front of exhaust camshaft so that the notch - A - and pin - B - are positioned across from one another.





- In this position, first place the chain at top - arrow - onto chain sprocket of the intake manifold.





- Slowly turn intake camshaft using toothed belt tensioner tool T10020 in direction of - arrow A - until camshaft adjuster fits onto camshaft.

Note: If the pin does not fit into the notch: Remove the chain and then re-install the chain again.

- Tighten bolt of camshaft adjuster to 100 Nm. Do this using socket T40080.





- Remove locking pin T10115 - arrow B -.

The rest of assembly is basically a reverse of disassembling sequence.
- Install intake manifold.
- Install the high-pressure pump.
