Gear Oil in Front Final Drive, Filling after Repair
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Socket SW 8 (3247)
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782 )
• Angled hex socket wrench 8 mm
• Protective glasses
Filling
• General repair notes. Refer to => [ Repair Information ] .
• Observe cleanliness rules when working on automatic transmissions. Refer to => [ Cleanliness Working Conditions ] .
- Move the vehicle onto a lifting platform or over a work pit so that it is absolutely level.
- Place Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device ( V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
- Remove oil filler hole sealing plug - arrow - with an angled hex socket wrench 8 mm.
- Fill front final drive with gear oil (quantities and specification. Refer to => [ Capacities ] ) slowly and evenly over a period of at least 5 minutes until oil drips from bottom of inspection hole.
• A filling time of at least 5 minutes is required so that the internal oil level between the differential and oil fill space can equalize.
- Install old sealing plug.
- Take vehicle for a test drive to heat gear oil to approximately 60 °C.
- Check oil level in front final drive. Refer to => [ Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level, Checking ] Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level, Checking.
