VIN, Adapting In Channel 81

VIN, Adapting in Channel 81

The "adaptation" function must be performed for a Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head starting with hardware/software version "0711" for which the fault "false VIN in control module" is displayed.

A new Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head is delivered as a replacement part without a VIN. When the ignition is activated for the first time after installation, the VIN transmitted by the comfort data bus system is read into and saved in the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head (from hardware/software version "0711") (theft protection).

If a Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head (starting with hardware/software version "0711") is installed in another vehicle (e.g. cross-exchange), the transmitted VIN and saved VIN no longer match and the fault "incorrect VIN in control module" is saved in the Climatronic control module ( J255) A/C control head. Entering the PIN number in the adaptation function deletes the VIN saved in the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head.

The Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head can only be adapted by entering the provided PIN number.

Requirements:

The battery is fully charged.

Check the coding of the instrument cluster control module (J285); it corresponds to the vehicle version and vehicle equipment. Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "guided fault finding" function

Check the VIN; the correct VIN for the vehicle must be stored in the instrument cluster control module (J285). Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "guided fault finding" function

Performing Adaptation

- Query the DTC memory of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head. Refer to => [ DTC Memory, Interrogating ] DTC Memory, Interrogating and erase any displayed faults (the fault "incorrect VIN in control module" cannot be erased at this time).

- Check the coding of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head with respect to vehicle-related optional equipment and correct as needed. Refer to => [ A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding ] A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding.

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

- Select function "10 - Adaptation".

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - indicates request to input channel number.

Display field - 2 - shows input keyboard.

- Enter "81" for channel "08 " via the input keyboard in display field - 2 - and confirm by pressing the Q button.

If "function unknown or cannot be carried out at the moment" is displayed in display field - 1 -, the following may be the cause:

Control module adaptation neither as specified nor complete

Fault in comfort data bus system.

If display field - 1 - shows "disabled" and a lockout time (e.g. "10" for 10 minutes), the adaptation function is currently not available since it was performed several times incorrectly.

Wait until the lockout time has expired.

Indication on display of the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - shows "read and test channel 81".

"PIN ?" appears in area - 2 -.

A scroll bar appears in area - 3 - (do not use for this application).

- Touch button - 4 - (input via keyboard)

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - indicates display "Enter adaptation value: 0....XXXXX".

Display field - 2 - shows input keyboard.

- Enter the PIN number for the new adaptation of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head in display field - 2 - via the keyboard.

PIN number: "26467"

Area - 2 - displays the entered PIN number.

- Press the Q button to confirm the entry.

Indication on display of the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Area - 3 - displays the entered PIN number above the scroll bar.

- Save input by touching button - 5 -.

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - indicates "save channel 81 ".

Area - 3 - shows the original PIN number or " 0" and the new PIN number.

- Accept and save the entry by pressing button - 4 -.

Display field - 1 - indicates "save channel 1, value 1 saved".

By clicking the <- button, you will return to the selection menu.

Entering the PIN number deletes the VIN saved in the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head. The Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head is now ready to accept the VIN transmitted via the comfort data bus system by the instrument cluster control module (J285).

- End on board diagnostic (OBD). Refer to => [ Ending Output ] Erasing DTC Memory, Ending Output and switch the ignition off.

- Start the engine.

- Query the DTC memory of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head. Refer to => [ DTC Memory, Interrogating ] DTC Memory, Interrogating and erase any displayed faults => [ Erasing DTC Memory, Ending Output ] Erasing DTC Memory, Ending Output.

The fault "incorrect VIN in control module" is no longer displayed or it can now be erased (if the adaptation was performed correctly).

- Check the VIN stored in the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head. Refer to => [ Display Group 081 ] Measured Value Blocks From Display Group 020 (read the measured value block, display group "081").
