Backrest Lock Actuating Link

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1410)

Pop rivet pliers (VAS 5072)

Drill machine

Drill bit dia. 6.0 mm

Engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095)

Fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136)

Removing

- Remove seat. Refer to => [ Seat ] Seat.

- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove backrest and front seat pan. Refer to => [ Front Backrest and Seat Pan ] Front Backrest and Seat Pan.

- Remove backrest cover. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Cushion ] Covers and Cushion, RS Front Sport Seats.

- Remove bolts - arrows - on inner part of belt guide.





- Remove inner part of belt guide - 1 -.

- Rotate inner part of belt guide and release retaining tabs - arrows -.





- Remove cover - 1 -.

- Remove bracket - 3 - for backrest lock actuating link on inner part of belt guide.





- Remove backrest lock release lever - 2 -.

- Disengage actuating link - 1 - in - direction of arrow -.

- Repeat work steps on opposite side.

- Remove backrest cover and backrest frame. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover ] Backrest Cover.





- Remove screws - 3 and 4 -.

- Drill out pop rivet - 2 - with a dia. 6.0 mm drill in backrest frame mount - 1 -.

- Tip backrest frame mount to side, remove actuating link bracket - 2 - at backrest frame mount - 3 -.





- Disengage actuating link eye - 1 - at backrest lock release lever - 4 - by sliding eye forward - arrow - and removing.

- Remove actuating link upward from backrest frame.

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

- Insert bolts with locking compound.

- Adjust backrest lock actuating link. Refer to => [ Backrest Lock Actuating Link, Adjusting ] Front RS Sport Seat.
