Measured value of the Instrument Panel Interior Temperature Sensor (G56), measured speed of the Interior Temperature Sensor Fan (V42), coolant temperature transmitted by the Instrument Cluster Control Module (J285 ) and activation of the output for idle speed increase
• The instrument panel interior temperature sensor ( G56) is ventilated by the interior temperature sensor fan (V42). If the intake frame is closed in the trim panel of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head or if the interior temperature sensor fan (V42) is not running, the temperature sensor cannot record the actual interior temperature and the regulation of the A/C system is faulty.
• The instrument panel interior temperature sensor ( G56) and the interior temperature sensor fan ( V42) are installed in the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head and cannot be replaced individually.
• When the ignition is on, the interior temperature sensor fan (V42) is always on.
• If the interior temperature sensor fan (V42) does not move with ease and the blower speed is less than 1500 rpm, this is stored as an error in the DTC memory of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head. At room temperature, the interior temperature sensor fan (V42) operates with a speed of approx. 3000 rpm.
• So that the compressor does not need to be suddenly switched off due to an extremely high coolant temperature, its output is regulated by the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head as soon as the coolant temperature transmitted by the instrument cluster control module (J285) exceeds 115°C (at 118°C the compressor is switched completely off).
• If the coolant temperature is less than 40°C, the instrument cluster control module (J285) may not transmit a coolant temperature via the comfort data bus system. In this case start the engine and wait until the coolant temperature is higher than 40°C. If " not OK" is displayed for a warm engine, perform the on board diagnostic for the instrument cluster control module (J285) via=> Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "guided fault finding" function.
• The processing of this signal in the engine control module differs between the individual engines.
• Check the "idle speed control" (idle speed increase) function. Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "guided fault finding" function.
• Prerequisite for activation of idle speed control is that there is no compressor shutoff condition allowing activation of the A/C compressor regulator valve (N280) (e.g. engine not running or " Econ" operating mode selected). The Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head activates the requested setting, e.g. when setting the temperature selector to "Low" or " Hi".
• This function informs the engine control module that the A/C system requires a higher engine speed to reach the defined setting (a higher compressor speed or more heating output from the engine).
• The request for idle speed increase is activated by the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head to achieve a better heating or cooling output, e.g at temperature preselect "Hi" or " Low" (at "Low" only when the compressor is on).
