ATF Changing or Filling after Repairs

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Triple square socket driver (3357)

ATF filler system F/CVT transmission (VAS 5162)

Old oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782 )

Safety glasses

Work Procedure

Move vehicle onto a lifting platform or over a work pit so that it stands absolutely horizontal.

CAUTION!
Do not allow the engine to run without filling with Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and do not tow the vehicle.

Observe disposal regulations!

Always blow compressed air through the ATF cooler and pipes (max. 10 mbar) and replace the auxiliary ATF filter before installing a replacement transmission. Refer to => [ Auxiliary ATF Filter ] Auxiliary ATF Filter.

- Fill the ATF filler system F/CVT transmission ( VAS 5162) with ATF for CVT transmissions.

ATF specification, refer to => [ Capacities ] Specifications.

CAUTION!
The ATF filler tool must be clean and the ATF must not be mixed with any other ATF oils!

- Secure the filled reservoir of the ATF filler system F/CVT transmission (VAS 5162) as high as possible on the vehicle.





The shut off valve on the ATF filler system F/CVT transmission (VAS 5162) must be closed.

- Loosen the quick release screws - 2 - and - 3 - and remove the rear noise insulation.





- Place the old oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782) beneath the transmission.

CAUTION!
Wear eye protection.

- Remove the ATF drain plug - A - using the triple square socket driver (3357) and drain ATF.





- Install and tighten the ATF drain plug.

Tightening specification : 24 Nm.

- Remove the ATF inspection plug - B -.

- Thread the connection on the shut off valve of the ATF filler system F/CVT transmission (VAS 5162) into the opening of the ATF inspection plug - B -.

- Rotate the shut off valve in the direction of the filler hose - lower arrow -. The ATF then flows into the transmission.





- Fill the transmission with at least 4.5 liters of ATF.

- With the selector lever in the "P" position, start the engine and let the engine idle.

For Vehicles as of MY 2005:

Selector lever in the "P" position.

- Let the engine run at a high speed, a minimum of 2500 RPM by pressing the accelerator pedal.

CAUTION!
It is necessary to run the engine at high speed so that the ATF pump is ventilated after performing repairs on the transmission.
