Driver Airbag Unit, Sport Steering Wheel
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051 A)
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
1 Coil Connector with Slip Ring
2 Airbag Unit Connector
3 TORX Bolts (T30) (Qty. 2)
• Tightening specification 7 Nm
4 Spiral Spring Connector
5 Steering Wheel
• Removing and installing, refer to => Steering Steering
6 Socket Head Bolt
• Tightening specification, Refer to => Steering Steering
7 Airbag Unit
• Removal:
- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap.
- Release steering column adjuster.
- Pull steering wheel - 5 - as far out as possible and up.
- Position steering wheel - 5 - vertically.
- Remove one TORX bolt (T30)- 3 -.
- Turn steering wheel back a half turn and loosen second TORX bolt (T30) - 3 -.
- Remove airbag unit connector - 2 -.
- Place airbag unit - 7 - so padding faces upward.
• Installing:
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. Observe the following when doing so:
- Ensure connector and securing clip engage completely (audibly).
- Ensure no wires are in contact with gas generator.
- Ensure airbag wiring is not kinked. Route airbag wiring in a loop to the left.
- Tighten bolts - 3 - (Qty. 2) to a tightening specification of 7 Nm.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.
- Connect the battery ground (GND) strap.
• Follow safety measures after connecting battery.
• If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ( K75) shows a malfunction after assembly, DTC memory must be checked with Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051 A), cleared and then rechecked.
