Transmission, Installing

Installation is in the reverse order of removal, note the following:

Before installing a replacement transmission, clean the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) cooler and pipes. Refer to => [ ATF Cooler and Pipes Cleaning ] Procedures.

When performing repairs, replace self locking nuts and bolts.

Always replace bolts that are secured with tightening specifications as well as seals, gaskets and O-rings.

Clean the input shaft splines of the transmission and damper unit splines on the flywheel, remove corrosion and apply only a very thin coating of lubricant (G 000 100) on the splines. Excess lubricant must be removed.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.

When installing, install all cable ties back to the same positions.

- Check if the alignment sleeves for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block, install if necessary.

- Before installing the transmission, tie electrical wiring to one side so that it cannot be trapped between the engine and transmission.

- Raise the engine far enough until the selector lever cable can be installed.

- Press the selector shaft lever - A - onto the transmission completely toward the rear - arrow - until the parking lock engages.

- Carefully press the ball socket of the selector lever cable - 2 - onto the lever for the selector rod.

Take care not to bend the selector shaft lever when pressing it on; support it if necessary, otherwise the selector mechanism can no longer be adjusted properly.

If the bracket for the selector lever cable - 3 - was removed from the transmission:

- Tighten bolts - 2 - on the bracket - 3 - for the selector lever cable to 23 Nm.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Lightly grease the ball socket of the selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2) before installing.

- Install the support bracket for the selector lever cable - 1 - according to the marking on the bracket.

- Place the intermediate panel or intermediate plate onto the bushings.

- Carefully raise the transmission and bring into installation position using the transmission support (3282).

Tightening specifications are valid only for nuts and bolts that are lightly greased, oiled, covered with a thin coat of phosphate or blackened, tightening specifications.

Additional lubricant such as engine or transmission oil may be used, but do not use graphite lubricant.

Do not use de-greased parts.

Tolerance for tightening specification ± 15%.

- Tighten the bolts for the engine/transmission flange to specifications (tables )

- Tighten the nuts for the left and right engine mounts - 3 -.

- Tighten the stabilizer bar bolts. Refer to - 2 -

- Tighten the bolts for the torque support or torque support stop to engine.

- Install the transmission mount - 1 - onto the transmission with bolts - 2 -. Refer to => [ Transmission Mount and Crossmember ] Service and Repair.
