Selector Lever Cable

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pry lever (80-200)

Socket and key (T40031)

Removing

- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.

- Remove the cover for the shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism Cover ] Shift Mechanism Cover.

- Place the selector lever in the "D" position.

- Loosen the rear clamping screw on the selector lever cable through the hole in the shift mechanism approximately one turn using the socket and key (T40031).





Loosen the clamping screw only approximately 1 turn. Do not remove.

The clamping screw is only accessible in selector lever position " D".

The selector lever must remain in the "D" position while the clamping screw is loose.

Removing

- Loosen the quick release screws - 2 - and - 3 - and remove the rear noise insulation.





- Remove the tunnel braces.





The flex joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10 degrees, otherwise it may be damaged.

- Disconnect the exhaust system at the double clamps - arrows -.





- Remove the heat shield under the shift mechanism.

For vehicles with noise insulation - A - under shift mechanism





- Remove the lock washers - arrows -.

Always replace the lock washers

- Remove the sound insulation - A - and slide forward.

Continuation for All

- Remove the selector lever cable retaining clip - 1 -.





- Remove the selector lever cable - 2 - from the shift mechanism.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Installing

Installation is in the reverse order of removal, note the following:

Tightening specifications. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable and Locking Cable Assembly Overview ] Selector Lever Cable and Locking Cable Assembly Overview.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Lightly grease the eyelet and the ball socket of the selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2 ) before installing.

For vehicles with noise insulation - A - under shift mechanism





- Slide the noise insulation - A - over the opening on the selector lever cable.

Continuation for All

- Replace the O-ring - 1 - on the selector lever cable.





- Slide the selector lever cable into the shift mechanism - arrow -.

- Secure the selector lever cable - 2 - to the shift mechanism with retaining clip - 1 -.





Installation position: The angled end of the retaining clip faces toward the shift mechanism.

For vehicles with noise insulation - A - under shift mechanism





- Secure the sound insulation to the shift mechanism with four new lock washers - arrows -.

Continuation for All

- Secure the selector lever cable - 5 - to the support bracket - 4 -, tighten the lock nuts - 6 -.





- Press the selector shaft lever - A - onto the transmission completely toward the rear - arrow - until the parking lock engages.





When the parking lock is engaged, it must not be possible to turn both front wheels in one direction at the same time.

- Then press the selector shaft forward 3 detents, so the transmission is in the "D" position.

- Ensure the selector lever in the vehicle is also in the " D" position.

- Carefully press the selector lever cable ball socket - 5 - onto the selector shaft lever - 7 - in this position.





Take care not to bend the selector shaft lever when pressing it on; support it as necessary, otherwise the selector mechanism can no longer be adjusted properly.

- Check the exact position of the selector lever in the "D" position by pushing the selector lever lightly towards the driver's seat - arrow A -.





Do not touch the selector lever during the adjustment.

- Tighten the clamping screw with the socket and key (T40031) through the hole in the shift mechanism while in this position, without touching the selector lever.

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Install the exhaust system and align it free of tension.
