Air Suspension Strut,Boot







Boot

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose clamp pliers (V.A.G 1275)

Removing

Replacement of boot is performed with suspension strut installed.

- Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.

- Remove the wheel.

- Carefully unclip and disconnect harness connector - 2 -. Unhook wiring harness of harness connector - 2 - at suspension strut.






- Remove the coupling rod of level control system sensor - 6 - from track control arm.






- Remove the hex bolt - 1 - and guide suspension strut fork out of track control arm.

- Mark position of line retainer - 1 - at suspension strut.






A line retainer - 1 - is installed at left suspension strut.

Two line retainers - 1 - are installed at right suspension strut.

- Remove clamp - 2 -.

If boot - 3 - was already replaced before, clamp at bottom of boot must also be removed.

- Carefully cut boot - 3 - from top to bottom (do not damage suspension strut) and remove.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Carefully install new boot.

- Screw on suspension strut at track control arm.

- Bring steering wheel into center position.

- Lift wheel bearing in control position. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing, with Air Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Wheel Bearing, with Air Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight Position.

- Slide boot - 3 - onto suspension strut housing.






- Attach line retainer - 1 - onto clamp - 2 -.

- Install clamp - 2 - only loosely.

- Align line retainer - 1 - with your marking on suspension strut.

- Install clamp from repair set on lower boot only loosely.

- Measure dimension - a - between boot and lower edge of suspension strut housing. The distance - a - must be 70 mm.






- Align clamps - 2 - and - 3 - so that they align with residual pressure valve - 1 -.






- Before tensioning clamps, make sure boot is not twisted, adjust if necessary.

- Tension clamps using (V.A.G 1275).
