Customers do not need to be informed directly of this campaign. Please ensure that all affected vehicles are checked and repaired during a service visit. You should also inform your new and used car sales departments so that the vehicles affected can be checked and, if necessary, repaired immediately (and not just before sale).

Procedure Overview

^ Perform a MMI system software update if the software version of J525 is 0390.

^ In either case (Software update or not), perform feedback documentation to the Software Version Management (SVM) system.

Software Update Procedure

Tip: The pictures below are for illustration purposes. Actual text may differ slightly when using this Update CD.

1. Connect an approved battery charger to the designated battery studs to maintain the vehicle battery charge during the software update.

2. Switch on the MMI system and take any CDs out of the CD player.

3. Insert the MMI Update CD 8K0 906 961 D into the first slot of the CD changer or in the CD player with the label facing up. Wait at least 10 seconds to allow the system to analyze the MMI flash CD.

4. Activate the radio menu by pressing the Radio function selector button on E380.

5. To access the red SWUpdate menu, first press Setup and then Return and hold both buttons down simultaneously for about 5 seconds until the display changes.

Tip: To avoid electromagnetic interference during the software update: Do not use a cellular phone or cordless desk phone in or around the vehicle.





6. Activate the SW Update via the bottom right control button, located next to the rotary push-button.

7. Activate the update from the CD-ROM by pressing the rotary push-button.





8. Wait up to 20 seconds while the meta-information is being read.





9. Select and confirm Standard with the rotary push-button.





10. Using the rotary push button, select and confirm Start download at the bottom of the displayed menu.





11. Observe and obey the following message. Scroll down. Select OK to start the software update.





12. The display automatically shows Start applications - waiting... when the programming update is completed. Please wait until the listed devices have been initialized.





13. Select Restart MMI (at the end of the list) and activate your selection with the rotary push-button.

14. Turn on the MMI system (if necessary) and verify the correct function of the system.

15. Remove the Software Update CD and reinsert the customer's CDs, if applicable.

16. Erase update-related communication fault codes in control module with the VAS Scantool.

17. Perform a Software Version Management (SVM) Update after updating the programming. Use SVM code 91E2A001.
