Front Seat With Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor or Control Module

Power Front Memory Seats

• From 07.2006, the usual wiring harness routing to connector station under front seat => [ Connectors, Disconnecting ] Power Front Memory Seats Overview has been replaced with modular wiring routing => [ Modular Wiring Routing, from 07.2006, Assembly Overview ] Standard Front Seats Overview.

• The modular wiring routing has not been implemented for all countries.

• Check version of front seat and of vehicle and perform repairs accordingly.

• Note the two possible versions of the modular wiring routing, Modular Light or Modular => [ Modular Wiring Routing Versions ] Standard Front Seats Overview.



Front Seat with Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor or Control Module

• If possible: Tilt seat up.

• Before disconnecting battery: Obtain coding of radio.

• Seat is shown without upholstery and without backrest in picture for the sake of a better illustration.

CAUTION!
Loosen bolts - 6 - only after checking electrical or electronic components and wires.

After loosening the bolts - 6 -, replace the seat pan lower section - 7 - including the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) with the transverse member - 9 -.





1 Bolt

• Tightening specification => [ Seat Pan Assembly Overview ] Power Front Memory Seats Overview

• Threaded holes for screws must always be cleaned (for example, with thread cutter)

2 Bolt

• Tightening specification => [ Power Front Memory Seat ]

• Qty. 4

3 Bolt

• Tightening specification => [ Seat Pan Assembly Overview ] Power Front Memory Seats Overview

• For nut => [ (Item 5) Nut ]

4 Seat pan upper frame

• Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags => [ Airbag Inspection ] .

- Remove screw - 1 -.

- Remove nut - 5 - and bolt - 3 -.

- Fold seat fully toward front. If necessary: Remove steering wheel => [ Steering Wheel ] .

CAUTION!
Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

• Check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing seat further to avoid unnecessary repair costs.

- Perform the following tests:

• Check fuse

• Check voltage at connector station, perform fault-finding if necessary

• Check voltage to control module

• Check the voltage to the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288)

- If fuse is faulty: replace fuse.

- If voltage to connector station is low: repair or replace wire.

- If the control module is faulty: Replace control module => [ Memory Seat Control Module ].

- If Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor (V288) is faulty: replace lower frame of seat pan - 7 - => [ Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan ] Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan.

Continue removing only if the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) is faulty

- Disconnect battery ground wire

- Remove bolts - 6 - (Qty. 4).

CAUTION!
Before removing seat: Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap.

- Disconnect connector - 8 -.

- Tip front seat back.

- Move seat until bolts - 2 - (Qty. 4) are visible.

- Remove bolts - 2 - (Qty. 4).

- Disconnect harness connectors => [ Connectors, Disconnecting ] Power Front Memory Seats Overview.

- Connect airbag adapter => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting ] Power Front Memory Seats Overview.

- With help from a second technician, lift front seat out of vehicle.

- Disconnect seat pan lower frame - 7 - and upper frame - 4 - => [ Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan ] Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan.

- Replace the seat pan lower frame - 7 - with the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) with the transverse member - 9 - => [ Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan ] Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan.

5 Nut

• Threaded holes for screws must always be cleaned (for example, with thread cutter)

6 Bolt

• Qty. 4

• For transverse member to seat pan lower frame

7 Lower seat pan frame

• Replace => [ Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan ] Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan

8 Connector

9 Seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) with transverse member

• After removing the bolts => [ (Item 6) Bolt ] , replace the seat pan lower frame with the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) and transverse member => [ Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan ] Power Front Memory Seats Seat Pan

• Installing

- Install front seat => [ Power Front Memory Seat ].
