Shift Interlock: Description and Operation
Shift Mechanism Overview
CAUTION!
Before working on a running engine, move the selector lever to P and push the parking brake button in order to lock the electro-magnetic parking brake.
Before disassembling the selector mechanism, perform check. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism, Checking ] Procedures.
1 Selector Lever Handle

2 Decorative Ring
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle and Selector Lever Transmission Range Position Display Unit Overview ] Description and Operation
3 Selector Lever Boot
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle and Selector Lever Transmission Range Position Display Unit Overview ] Description and Operation
4 Clamp
• For securing the selector lever handle to the selector lever
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle and Selector Lever Transmission Range Position Display Unit Overview ] Description and Operation
5 Selector Lever Transmission Range Position Display (Y26)
• Refer to => [ Selector Lever Transmission Range Position Display Unit ] Selector Lever Transmission Range Position Display Unit
6 Nut
• 10 Nm
• Quantity: 4, for securing selector mechanism to body
7 Rubber Seal
8 Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module (J587) with Tiptronic Switch (F189)
• Refer to => [ Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module with Tiptronic Switch ] Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module with Tiptronic Switch
9 Selector Mechanism Function Unit
• Can only be replaced as a unit
• Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism Function Unit ] Service and Repair
10 Shift Lock Solenoid (N110)
• Refer to => [ Shift Lock Solenoid N110 ] Service and Repair
11 Transmission Park Selector Switch (F305)
• Consists of two microswitches on the circuit board on the shift lock solenoid
• Can only be replaced together with the shift lock solenoid, refer to => [ Shift Lock Solenoid N110 ] Service and Repair
12 Noise or Heat Insulation
• Installed with different versions and replacement part numbers.
• Not installed on all vehicles
13 Lock Washers
• Quantity: 4, always replace
• For securing noise insulation on selector mechanism function unit
14 Retaining Clip
• Secures selector lever cable on selector mechanism function unit
15 O-ring
• Always replace
16 Selector Lever Cable
• Do not bend

• Lightly lubricate ball socket with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2) before installing.
