Mechanically Dimming Interior Rearview Mirror, Attaching Retaining Plate

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Window scraper (commercially available)

Blade (commercially available)

Glass/metal adhesive set (D 000 703 A1)


Work with adhesive material at room temperature and observe manufacturer's safety and usage guidelines.

The material hardens completely after a few hours.

- Dimension - a - for interior rearview mirror location = 142 mm (upper edge of front window to center of mirror base retaining plate).





- Remove retaining plate from mirror base.

- Remove PUR adhesive material from retaining plate with wire brush.

- Grind off the three spacer knobs on the adhesive surface using 360 - 400 grit sand paper on a flat surface.

- Keep sanded surface free of dirt and grease.

- Scrape off PUR adhesive and primer from windshield down to ceramic layer using glass scraper.


Be careful not to damaged the ceramic coating because scratches are always visible.

- Clean adhesive surface with adhesive remover (D 002 000 10) or cleaning solution (D 009 401 04).

- Cut nylon mesh to exact size of retaining plate.

Hand protection (rubber gloves) should be worn.

- Spread thick layer of adhesive evenly on retaining plate.

- Lay nylon mesh on retaining plate.

- While continuing to apply adhesive with tube dab nylon mesh.

30 seconds are available from laying the nylon mesh on the adhesive to pressing on the windshield.

- Press mirror base (without force) onto windshield and hold for 15 seconds.

- Use a rag to remove excess adhesive.

The interior rearview mirror can be installed after 15 minutes.
