Air Intake Housing

Air Intake Housing

The design of the air intake housing is different on vehicles with manually and automatically regulated A/C system. On the air intake housing for vehicles with automatically regulated A/C system, there are again different versions (with and without mount for Fresh Air Intake Duct Temperature Sensor (G89) with one or two control motors for operating recirculating air and air flow door / fresh air door). Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

Up to the end of model year 2007, the air flow door (fresh air door) was moved by Airflow door Motor (V71). From the end of model year 2007, the Airflow door motor is being discontinued as a running change, on vehicles without the Airflow door motor the air flow door is actuated via a curved washer and lever of the Recirculation door motor (V113). Refer to=> [ Recirculation Door Motor (V113) ] Recirculation Door Motor (V113). Therefore note the correct allocation of the Climatronic control module (J255) , if the allocation or the adaptation is not OK this is detected during basic setting and stored as a malfunction. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.

Removing

- Remove the instrument panel and the instrument panel crossmember.

- Remove A/C unit. Refer to=> [ A/C Unit ] A/C Unit.

- Disconnect the connector - A -.

- Mark wire connection to connector - B - (to Airflow door Motor) and disconnect it (danger of interchange since connectors - B - and - C - are of identical construction).

- Mark wire connection to connector - C - (to Recirculation Door Motor (V113) ) and disconnect it.

- Remove bolts - D -.

- Disengage intake housing from A/C unit.

Different versions on vehicles with and without fresh air intake duct temperature sensor (G89). Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

From model year 2006, the fresh air intake duct temperature sensor has been gradually discontinued, on vehicles without this temperature sensor, only the Climatronic Control Module (J255) with part number as of index M is or may be installed.

On vehicles without fresh air intake duct temperature sensor, a Climatronic Control Module with part number up to index L installed enters a DTC into the DTC memory.

Installing

Reinstall all removed components in the opposite sequence while observing the following:

- When attaching air intake housing, make sure mounting points - F - and - G - are seated correctly.

- Install the wiring harness so that it cannot come in contact with any moving parts (for example, the motor actuating arm).
