Transmission, Removing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)

Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Transmission Support (3282)

Pin (3282/29)

Adjusting Plate (3282/42 A)

Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Removing

Refer to the information on the DSG transmission 02E => [ Transmission ] Transmission.

When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.

- Move the selector lever into "P".

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - on the mass airflow (MAF) sensor (G70).





- Open the clips and remove the air guide hose from the mass airflow (MAF) sensor.

- Remove the intake support - arrows -.

- Remove the engine cover in direction of - arrow -.

- Remove the catalytic converter and front exhaust pipe.


Risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery.

Observe measures for disconnecting battery.

- Remove battery.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the battery carrier.





Use a cloth to catch any leaking coolant.





- Clamp the transmission fluid cooler coolant hoses using (3094) and remove them from then transmission oil cooler.

- Seal any open lines and connections with a clean plug from the (VAS 6122).

- Remove the securing clamp - C -.





- Move the securing clamp - A - and remove.

- Remove the selector lever cable from the selector lever - arrow -.


To prevent bending, the selector lever cable can only be removed from the cable bracket - D - while carefully lowering the transmission.

Ignore - 1 and B -.

- Loosen the clamp - 2 -.





- Remove the nut - 3 -.

- Disconnect the connector - 4 -.

Ignore - 1 -.

- Disconnect the ground (GND) wire - 3 -.





- Disconnect the connector - 2 -.

- Fold back the protective boot - 1 - and disconnect the B+ wire from the solenoid switch.

- Free up the connector - 5 - and the wires on the bracket.


There is a risk of destroying the control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

- To discharge static, touch vehicle ground with hand (without glove).

- Disconnect the connector - 4 - on the transmission by turning screw connection counterclockwise.

- Remove the lower bolt - 2 - on the starter, which is accessible from above.





- Remove upper starter bolt - 1 - and the starter.

- Remove the engine/transmission connecting bolts - 1, 3 and 10 - accessible from above.





Bolt - 3 - accessible only after the cover is removed.

- If required, release the seal clip with the (80 - 200) and open up the seal.





- Set (10 - 222 A) on the bolted fender flanges (vehicles until 05.2008) or the steel plate (vehicles after 05.2008), as shown in the illustration.





- Hook the spindle of the engine support bridge into the left engine lifting eye.

- Slightly pretension the engine with the spindle, do not lift.

- Remove left front wheel.





- Remove the noise insulation.

Depending on the version, different noise insulation may be installed.

Audi A3 Cabriolet

- Remove the frame for the noise insulation - arrow -.





For All Vehicles

- Remove the front section of the left front wheel housing liner.





Depending on the version, different wheel housing liner may be installed.

- Remove air guide hose to charge air cooler by loosening hose clamps - 1 and 2 -.





- Remove bolt - 1 - and remove air guide pipe downward.





Ignore - 2, 3 and 4 -.

- Remove the nuts - arrow - and the bracket.





- Remove the bolt - arrow - and remove the coolant hose bracket from the transmission.





- Remove the right drive axle heat shield - arrows -.





- Remove the left and right drive axle from the transmission flange shafts.

- Raise the left and right drive axle and secure them with cable ties.

Make sure drive axle protective coating is not damaged.

- Remove the right flange shaft bolt - arrow -.





The flange shaft will be removed later.

Check the shaft seal for leaks before removing the flange shaft. If the shaft seal has leaks, replace it when installing.

- Disconnect the connector - 3 - from the left front level control system sensor (G78).





- Remove the bolt - 2 -.

Ignore - 1 -.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - on the left ball joint.





- Disengage the left transverse link from the ball joint.

- Move the left suspension strut to the outside and support it with the (2024 A /1) as illustrated.






Secure the securing pin and ball joint with the plug connector - arrow - and nut - 1 -.

- Remove the bolts - 1 to 3 - and remove the pendulum support.





- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and the transmission bracket - A -.





- Lower the engine/transmission sub-assembly by the spindle on the (10 - 222 A) until dimension - a - is reached between the transmission housing and the transmission mount.





- a - = maximum 100 mm.

- Make two 7 mm diameter holes in the support (T10036) as illustrated.





- a - = 70 mm

Dimension - b - = 98 mm

Dimension - c - = 11 mm

- Fasten the (T10036) to the subframe with two M6 x 20 bolts - arrows -.





- Attach the (3300 A) to the (T10036).





- Push the engine forward approximately 40 mm with the spindle of the support device.

To remove the transmission, the (3282) is equipped with the (3282/42A) and positioned on the (V.A.G 1383 A).





- Align the arms of the transmission support to correspond with the holes in the (3282/42A).

- Install support elements as shown on (3282/42A).

- Place the (V.A.G 1383 A) under the vehicle.

The arrow symbol on the adjustment plate points in the direction of travel.

- Align the (3282) so that it is parallel to the transmission.

- Install the (3282/29) into the transmission.

- Secure both support elements to the transmission as illustrated.

Deviating from the illustration of the adjustment plate, the front transmission support is illustrated mounted to the transmission - arrow -.

- Support the transmission from underneath with the engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A).

- Remove remaining transmission to engine connecting bolts - 5 through 9 -.





- Remove the transmission from the alignment sleeves.

- Remove the transmission from the engine.

- Remove the right flange shaft.

- Carefully lower the transmission using (V.A.G 1383 A).


Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

The selector lever cable must be guided out of the cable bracket while carefully lowering the transmission.

- When lowering, change position of transmission with spindles on (3282).
