4.2L FSI
Starter
Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.
Removing
- Remove the engine/transmission subassembly.
- Remove the right catalytic converter.
- Remove the generator. Refer to => [ Generator ] Generator.
Expanding the scissor lift table
- Equip the scissor lift table (VAS 6131 A) with the Audi support set (VAS 6131/10) as follows:
- Rotate the support set spindle up until the mounting pin comes into contact with the mounting point.
- Tighten the mounting element base plate on the scissor lift table (VAS 6131 A) to 20 Nm.
- Disconnect the electrical connector - 2 - on the right electrohydraulic engine mount solenoid valve (N145) and free it up.
- Remove the bolts - 1 and 4 - and - arrows - for the right engine mount retaining plate.
- Free up the wiring harness on the retaining plate - 3 - on the right engine mount.
- Lay the engine mount retaining plate aside.
- Remove the bolts - arrow -.
- Remove the bolt - 2 - and lay the secondary air pipe aside.
- Remove the nut - 1 - and free up the ground wire on the engine support.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the right engine support with the engine mount.
- Remove the electrical wire - 2 - on the starter.
- Disconnect the electrical connector - 3 - by sliding the retainer back and pressing the release down.
- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 4 - and the starter.

Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Starter Assembly Overview ] Starter Assembly Overview.
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- If the vehicle has an automatic transmission and a 3.2L FSI engine, make sure the seal - 1 - fits correctly inside the starter opening before installing the starter.
• The seal must cover the opening for the starter - 2 - - arrow -.
- Install the engine mount and the right engine support.
- Install the right catalytic converter.
- Install the generator. Refer to => [ Generator ] Generator.
- Connect battery. Required actions => [ Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
