Standard Front Seats
• From 07.2006, the usual wiring harness routing to connector station under front seat => [ Connectors, Disconnecting ] Standard Front Seats Overview has been replaced with modular wiring routing => [ Modular Wiring Routing, from 07.2006, Assembly Overview ] Standard Front Seats Overview.
• The modular wiring routing has not been implemented for all countries.
Standard Front Seat
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)
• Before disconnecting battery: Obtain coding of radio.
1 Front seat
• Removing
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags => [ Airbag Inspection ] .
- Tilt seat up.
- Pull assembly cover - 4 - up and remove.
- Pull seat belt anchor - 3 - down in direction of arrow and remove.
- Pull the seat forward/back adjustment handle and move the front seat - 1 - all the way back.
- Remove bolts - 2 - (2x) at front. Pull the seat forward/back adjustment handle and move the front seat - 1 - all the way forward.
- Remove bolts - 2 - (2x) at rear.
- Disconnect battery ground wire
CAUTION!
Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.
- Tip front seat - 1 - back.
- Disconnect harness connectors => [ Connectors, Disconnecting ] Standard Front Seats Overview.
- Connect airbag adapter => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting ] Standard Front Seats Overview.
- With help from a second mechanic, lift front seat - 1 - out of vehicle.
• Installing
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. When doing so, note the following:
CAUTION!
• Observe safety precautions for work on airbags => [ Airbag Inspection ] .
• Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.
- Remove Airbag Adapter (VAS 6036) only after installing front seat => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting ] Standard Front Seats Overview.
• Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.
- Connect connector to couplings on connector station location in floor => [ Connectors, Disconnecting ] Standard Front Seats Overview.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect battery ground cable with ignition switched on.
- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B).
