Preparing to Work on Headlamps

Adjust the headlamps after performing any work that could have affected their adjustment.

The engine version determines the difficulty of accessibility to the headlamp light bulb. If necessary, additional steps must be performed.

Reservoir for power steering, loosening at bracket

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil Extractor (V.A.G 1782)

Procedure

- Use (V.A.G 1782) to draw off power steering hydraulic fluid from reservoir.

Place a rag under reservoir for power steering to catch escaping hydraulic fluid.

- Remove bolt - arrow - and lay aside reservoir for power steering with hydraulic hoses connected.





Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

- Install the power steering fluid reservoir.

- Fill up power steering fluid and check hydraulic fluid level.

Tightening Specifications





Air Filter Housing, Removing - Vehicles with 6-Cylinder Gasoline Engine

Procedure

- Remove bolts - arrows -.





- Remove air guides - 1 - and - 2 -.

- Remove rear engine cover - arrows -.





- Pull check valve - 1 - off from air guide hose.





- Remove air guide hose, to do so, open clips - arrows - and loosen hose clamp - 2 -.

- Open clips - arrows - and remove upper air filter housing.





- Disconnect vacuum line - 1 -.





- Remove pin of expanding clip - 4 -.

- Remove lower air filter housing and disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 - at rear.

- If present, disconnect hose - 3 - secondary air injection pump.

- Remove lower air filter housing.

Install in reverse order.

Air Filter Housing, Removing - Vehicles with 4.2L MPI Engine

Procedure

- Remove bolts - arrows -.





- Remove air guides - 1 - and - 2 -.

- Uncover fuel line - 1 - at upper air filter housing.





- Disconnect connector - 2 - for mass airflow sensor (G70).

- Remove air guide hose, to do so remove hose clamp - 3 -.

- Open clips - arrows - and remove upper air filter housing with mass airflow sensor.

- Disconnect vacuum line.

- Remove pin of expanding clip - 3 -.





- Remove lower air filter housing and disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 - at rear.

- Remove hose - 1 - to secondary air injection pump.

- Remove lower air filter housing.

Install in reverse order.

Air Filter Housing, Removing - Vehicles with 4.2L FSI Engine

Procedure

- Remove bolts - arrows -.





- Remove air guides - 1 and 2 -.

- Lay aside fuel line and line to EVAP canister at air filter housing and air guide pipe.





- Disconnect connector - 1 - for mass airflow sensor.

- Disconnect vacuum line - 3 - to air duct hose.

- Remove hose to crankshaft housing ventilation - 2 - from air guide hose, to do so press release buttons.

- Remove air guide hose with mass airflow sensor, to do so release hose clamp - 4 - and open clips - arrows -.

Disregard item - 5 -.

- Open clips - arrows - and remove upper air filter housing.





- Disconnect vacuum line - 1 -.





- Remove pin of expanding clip - 4 -.

- Remove lower air filter housing and disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 - at rear from intake air switch-over valve (N335).

Install in reverse order.
