Steering Column Switch Module and Electronic Ignition Lock
Access/Start Authorization Switch
• Induction coil for immobilizer is secured to access/start authorization switch (E415) and cannot be replaced separately.
• If induction coil is malfunctioning, access/start authorization switch must be replaced.
• The immobilizer does not need to be adapted if the access/start authorization switch is replaced.
• Lock in access/start authorization switch is not coded mechanically.
• Keys must therefore not be replaced when access/start authorization switch is replaced; present keys continue to match.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Special Pliers (VAS 6339)
Removing
- Remove the driver side instrument panel cover.
- Remove the right impact bar..
- Remove the instrument vent in the center..
- Insert the (VAS 6339) through the trim flaps.
- Position the tips of the (VAS 6339) on both holes - arrows A - on the switch for the - 2 - access/start authorization switch (E415).
- Press the (VAS 6339) handles together, in the direction of the - B arrows -, to spread the tips of the pliers and release the trim retaining tabs.
- Hold the (VAS 6339) pressed with one hand and remove the trim - 1 - with the other hand, in the direction of - arrow C -.
• Only use the (VAS 6339) to release. Remove the trim by hand.
- Remove bolt - 4 -.
- Remove the access/start authorization switch - 1 - from the instrument panel and into the passenger compartment.
• If necessary, push the wiring harness on the central tube to the side.
- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 - by sliding retainer - 3 - up in the direction of the - arrow - and pressing the release inward.
Installing
• Tightening specification, refer to => [ Access/Start Authorization Switch Tightening Specification ] Service and Repair.
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Install the center instrument vent..
- Install the right impact bar..
- Install the driver side instrument panel cover.
