Center Instrument Panel Vent

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Trim removal wedge (3409)

Hook (3438)

There are two different version of the center instrument panel vents. Depending on the version, there are two different way to remove the center instrument panel vents. Version 1, which applies to older vehicles, is described first, then version 2 is described. Version 2 is more common. See which version is installed in the vehicle and then remove the center instrument panel vent accordingly.

Version 1, removing

- Position the steering wheel so that it is as far rearward and down as possible, using the full adjustment range of the steering column adjuster.

- Carefully loosen trim panel spring pins - 1 - from instrument panel using (3409).





The instrument panel vent has a hole on both sides for attaching the (3438).

- Carefully pull instrument panel vent out of installation opening on both sides using (3438).

If instrument panel vent cannot be removed, proceed as follows:

- Position instrument panel vent blades so they are horizontal.

- Release clips - arrow - by inserting watchmaker screwdrivers - 2 - and - 3 -.

- Pull instrument panel vent out of installation opening on both sides using (3438), thereby keeping watchmaker screwdrivers inserted.

- Disengage wiring harness from clip - 3 -.





- Disconnect all electrical connectors - arrows -.

The illustration shows a center vent panel with complete switch routing. Depending on equipment, a cover plate may also be partially installed.

Version 2, removing

- Position the steering wheel so that it is as far rearward and down as possible, using the full adjustment range of the steering column adjuster.

- Remove trim molding on center vent panel - 1 - at left in - direction of arrow -. Use (3409) to unclip if necessary.





- Position center vent panel fins - 1 - horizontally.

- Using a small screwdriver - 3 - and - 4 - (commercially available), release metal clips - 2 - in - direction of arrow -.

The center vent panel has a hole on both sides for attaching the (3438).

- Pull center vent panel - 1 - out of installation opening on instrument panel on both sides with (3438), screwdrivers - 3 - and - 4 - must remain inserted.

- Disengage wiring harness from clip - 3 -.





- Disconnect all electrical connectors - arrows -.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
