Flange Shaft Seals






Flange Shaft Seals

The oil seals can be only be replaced with the final drive removed.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Puller (T10037)

Needle Bearing Drift (VW 295)

Thrust piece (T40108)

Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

- Observe general repair notes. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] Procedures.

- Remove the rear final drive. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive ] Rear Final Drive or => [ Rear Final Drive ] Rear Final Drive.

Removing flange shaft (right side)

- Place drip tray underneath.

- Install the (T10037) on the housing - arrow - and remove the flange shaft.





Left Flange Shaft, Removing

- Place drip tray underneath.

- Install the (T10037) on the housing - arrow - and remove the flange shaft.





- Pry out sealing ring with suitable lever.





Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:

Right sealing ring, installing

- Coat outer edge of gasket with axle oil.

- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Drive in new sealing ring with (T40108) to stop, do not tilt sealing ring.





Left sealing ring, installing

- Coat outer edge of gasket with axle oil.

- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Drive in new sealing ring with (T40108) to stop, do not tilt sealing ring.





Right and Left Flange Shafts, Installing

- Drive the flange shaft in using a (VW 295).





- Install the rear final drive.

Installing on the Audi A4, Cabriolet and Audi A6 => [ Install the Rear Final Drive

- Checking gear oil in rear final drive. Refer to => [ Gear Oil in Rear Final Drive, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
